Mealtime Managment Plans

What is a Mealtime Managment Plan?

The Mealtime Management plan is developed using the information collected in the in person swallow assessment. Each individual is different and has a different set of needs to help them enjoy mealtimes safely. A Mealtime Management plan allows staff to easily understand the requirements for each individual and assist them safely.

A Mealtime Management Plan may include recommendations for:

  • Modified diet and fluid.

  • specific equipment

  • positioning and seating during meals

  • Supervision and assistance required during meal times

  • environmental factors

Modified Diet and Fluid Reccomendation

The IDDIS framework facilitations the safe consumption and enjoyment of food and drink by all persons with eating and drinking difficulties (dysphagia). The IDDIS is a practical and easy to follow system for naming and describing food testure and drink thickness.

Each Mealtime Management Plan includes details on how to test food and fluid to meet required standards of consistency and size.

Education for staff

After assessing the client and developing the Mealtime Managment Plan, our Speech Pathologist can provide education on implementing the recommendations to staff. Education can be provided in person at your preferred location or via telehealth.

Support Coordinators and House Supervisors will be provided with a digital copy of the Swallow assessment report and the Mealtime Managment Plan so it can be displayed in the clients home and provided to any relevant day service providers.
